ABSTRACT: The coking behaviour and kinetic study of Cr-ZSM-5 (Si/Al=240) catalyst during ethyl acetate (EAc) and benzene (Bz) combustion are reported. Coking kinetic model seeing the process as a combination of monolayer-type and whiskertype coke accumulations was tested. Coked Cr-ZSM-5 was prepared by exposing the catalyst to different feed concentrations from 2,000 ppm to 32,000 ppm of each organic at a GHSV of 3,800 h· 1 between 200°C to 600°C for up to 12 h. Coke formation was feed concentration-dependent and was at its maximum at around 300°C and 400°C for ethyl acetate and benzene, respectively. Above these temperatures , the experimental data fitted the coking model. Compared to the whisker-type coking rate constant (kw), the monolayer-type coking rate constant (km) for ethyl acetate was found to be more sensitive to temperature change while it was vice versa for benzene. The kinetic model also suggested that coking and organic combustion occurred at different active sites. ABSTRACT : Process Tomography Research Group (PROTOM) Control and Instrumentation Engineering Department Faculty of Electrical Engineering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia 81310 UTM Skudai. Johor, Malaysia (ruzairi@.fke.utm.my) This paper describes the development of Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT). ECT is a non-intrusive technique for obtaining information about the distribution of the contents of closed pipes by measuring variations in the dielectric permittivity of the material inside the pipe. An eight electrode ECT sensor system with MATLAB software programming was developed. This system can be used to model the volume ratio of water and oil mixture particularly in a flow horizontalstratified distribution. Data from the hardware system can be acquired directly from a computer through data acquisition system (DAS) card that provide the cross sectional image of water and oil mixture. Image reconstruction algorithm used in this project was based on Linear Back Projection (LBP). ABSTRACT : An analysis of solar radiation at several main towns in Malaysia shows that solar radiation is possible to be used for agricultural drying . Thus several studies have been done to use the abundant solar energy in Malaysia with concern of environmental impact and less energy consumption. Unfortunately there is no expert system catering for solar designs to assist decision makers. In this paper an interview with some researchers in the field of solar energy group at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was conducted, in order to get the parameters and criteria of solar energy use in Malaysia. From the selected parameters it is concluded that it is possible to use expert system for solar energy in Malaysia, and that is due to many studies, which showed a range of similarity in most of those parameters. The fluctuated parameters can be observed since the trend was there. Example of the prototype expert system is finally presented. design_of_a_low_cost_digital_lock.pdfDESIGN OF A LOW COST DIGITAL LOCK

ABSTRACT: This paper presents the design of a low cost digital lock using EDA (Electronic design automation) software. The conventional lock and key system can be replaced using the proposed digital lock. A coded data word is stored in the memory of the lock as a master key. When user inserts his password in the lock, it is compared with the master key and an output signal for the actuation of the lock is generated if the password is correct. The code word is user programmable, which enhances the security of the lock. The proposed lock is low cost and affordable for the low budget people.
